What do you mean there is only 24 hours in a day

You know it seems like things get so busy that the days start melting into each other. You go to sleep thinking of the things that are going to happen in the morrow and before you know you are into the next day thinking of the things that are still left to do the next day. It can be a circle. Oh well that is how it is with everyone! And who can't relate?
This past weekend we went to see a Civil War re-enactment just down from out home here in Gatlinburg or should I say Pitman Center since we are just on the outskirts. The day was bright and sunny here and we loaded up in the car for what was a 2 minute ride to Mills Park, a place that I am constantly going when I am walking the dogs. After parking and getting a quick lift back up to the place that we claimed as ours to watch the re-enactment we started to look around. Jim gout was acting up so we where mindful about how far we could walk in the field so we opted not to visit the Northern side. Everyone there was very helpful with stories of that time and what the solders would have taken with them into battle. That reminds me I found this fantastic web site that offers some great insight to the Civil War era at Civil War. To see some of my photos from that day you can catch them here:
It is fantastic to see history in a re-enactment format to be able to hear the stories that these men have to tell. I never could understand why people would say history was interesting until I started to see history in this re-enactment format.

You might like to drop in to the home school blog. There are some links to the history that are fantastic to watch. Sherman's bow ties, and Grant's and Sherman's relationship is one that is quit interesting . I am still learning but I will continue to take a peek back and get the facts straight. Our history is important in that it needs to be remembered as accurately as possible.
Seeing all this Civil War dress and camp site got me to thinking again about sewing some items in costume and some that are not for costume wear. That is to say I would love to take a design that was of the 1800 and alter it to fit today's style but give it an edge that time was not seen in the garment. It would be at home in the 1800s and in the 2009. I have seen several movies that items and garments have been altered to not reflect a time so that the movie or setting stays viewable in any time era. The costumes that where designed for the movie Harry Potter when they are at Hogwarts are designed in that manner. To not reflect a time. The wizard's clothing also reflected not an old style since, but a different feel. One of timelessness.
I have a short blog in the studio section that talks about that.
With all this blogging it is amazing that I can get anything done in the studio. I have to make a commitment to blog and blog well and stop doing bits every day. Start putting down something that is worth reading. Or at least that is what I say on a constant basis. I do believe that I will start using the draft button more than I usually do. Start publishing only once a week and on a timely basis. So lets see how that goes shall we?

My Garden

It is summer time and the garden in in full bloom. I believe this year I am truly enjoying what it means to be a gardener. The joy of bring life into a forgotten garden and seeing it unfold before my eyes. I have not spent a lot of money this year on garden supplies but instead have used what nature had discarded. Leave have been turned into compost. Branches and limbs have been used to border the beds. I have left the wild strawberries in the flower bed instead of weeding them out. It give a great look. Splashed of even more reds on the floor of the bed with their beautiful shaped leaves. You would not know it to look at this garden today but it was almost gone. Behind every garden is a story. Find out what this one is. Enter the Frog's Studio Blog and see the story behind these blooms. Thanks for stopping by!

Who's sleeping late?

Gabby, if anyone asked why is the bed not made well look no further then this photo. She sleeps with me all night and in the morning she is off like a shot to the cat dish there she screams (because there is me-nowing in the morning) Screams for her breakfast and God help you if you are not quick on the draw to get her food. Then by the time I have taken the dogs out for their morning bathroom break she has scurried back into the bed. Now folks that is a matter of 20 minutes. As I make my way up stairs and walk through the room turning on the bedroom light on my way to the closet she screams (as if to say please turn off that light I am trying to sleep) I apologize and promptly turn off the light. Now that is why this bed gets made a later time them most should make their beds!

Ah Ginnie my want to be alpha dog. She dreams of that spotlight. She aspires to be there every waking moment. And to her dismay she is always put back in her place. This time however she is working to get used to my 1951 truck. She passed with flying colors. Her strong desire to forge ahead came in handy here while cranked she loaded up flawlessly and for that there was extra milk bones.

Spring is in full swing here. Here is my first bloom of my favorite flower the foxglove.
The first few days of yard work, I believe that is always the hardest. But with my helpers the cats Gabby and Ti Ti (Tiger) and my 9year old son we are soon out side and off to weed and rake. It is the mowing that really gets me. We have been working hard to get the homeschooling to the summer point meaning that there is not as much that we go over in our mornings. So this week we are moving outdoors and give the work a "slight" break. Here are some of the sights we saw when we arrived outdoors.
Tiger saw the gardening bag and had to come over and supervise! They are such great cats and always want to be right in the thick of things when we are working in the garden. She is sometimes right on top of the weeds that we are pulling but who cares.

Here are our first apples. Hopefully the will reach maturity and we will get a bit of it before some creature gets a taste first!

And below is our first Hydrangea bloom also so you can see things are popping.

For now it is back to the studio to get some cleaning done.
