I made it through the holidays and into a New Year. Along the way I picked up the flue so I have welcomed the New Year from the confines of my sofa. I find that there I may be sick but still orcatrated the daily chores and keep the house running even from my sick bed or in this case my sick sofa.
I have indulged my self during this time with wonderful old classics. Weather watching PBS with their great adaptations of the Classics and by this I mean anything from Dickens to Christie to Elizabeth Gaskell. Just yesterday during the last few hours of my recouping I watched the PBS version of Elizabeth Gaskell's "Canford". Oh the execticy of being able to escape to a time where there are no phones or computers. Where you interacted with neighbors and news came by word of mouth. Oh I know that all was not as perfect and the time definitely had it's cracks but oh the ability to wear those wonderful clothes and hats. The ability to sit and sew these fabulous dresses for children and adults. Oh and don't forget the lace! But I do ramble and tend to romanticize about it all. To dream and be content within my own imagination.
Well on to things that I have been up to and that is sewing. I have had that bug bite me again and have given into that desire full heartily. Soon I will have to produce some more graphics in time for valentines day but for now the thread is occupying my time.
Here are a few of the items that I have been working on in the studio. These baby booties have worked from the pattern 2867 Simplicity Vintage 48
Amazing Effects A top rated seller on e-bay has this fantastic pattern for 4.97$ a steal if you ask me even with shipping and handling. The retail price is 16.95$. So you can see the math LOL.I have added my own version of needle work on my booties.
Working with white and pink. (White floss on a lovely pink wool felt.) I thought that the white floss added a soft look. I used the same floss to create the ties for the little booties crocheting the floss. Being that these are my first pair they will be my worst pair and thing after this will be more practiced and refined. The stitch work is done with Bullion stitch for the roses and a Blanket or Button hole stitch for the edges and a Fish bone stitch for the ferns.
Along with this endeavor I have started to Tat. Oh yes the ecstasy of lace making the ability to produce the fabulous edging that I lust after at estate sales or on e-bay. This is perhaps the most rewarding undertaking that I have done thus so far. (You know to keep up with the knitting and tatting I do have a blog that I keep uploading pics of my little endeavors for those of you who are interested just click my info for a link) Well that is it for right now I don't know about you but I prefer those blogs that are not too wordy. The ones that give you a flavor not a full coarse. Inspiration over saturation .
