Creations In Knitting

If I am not on the computer creating new designs then you bet you can find me knitting to my favorite British Mysteries on audible or nexflix.   Now for all my followers that are knitters or love the idea of knitting I also have a knitting blog.  Here I up-load my newest project or blog about a great product that has come out that I put on my "gotta have it list" but today I simply had to share with you here some of my newest designs.  Did I say my newest designs?  Yes I did.  I have been designing some great little baby caps.
I love the colors with the red against the natural cotton.  It just looks like a fantastic cap that some little flower bud would love to adorn their head for the coming of spring.  This was the first cap that I designed.  Needless to say once that creative dam was broken, the ideas just flooded out.

The next little cap that popped into my head was this little squash cap.  The soft cotton with this chennile topper would be great to pop on that sweet little head at photo time.

This is the last of my little brain storming.  A Wee Willie Winkie Hat for that sleepy baby equipped with a star to guide any child to dream land.

I am currently working on translating these all into patterns.  I will let you know when they come around.   Until then for your purchase these are all available at my etsy store

I am SO EXCITED

I have been published in the latest Somerset Digital Studio Mag.  I was so excited to receive my copy this morning.  I have been an admirer of this magazine for a while now always making a bee-line to the back of the book store to see the newest issue (only printed twice a year) culling over the pages and getting inspiration for the artist that where chosen.  I would turn to my daughter and say one day I will be in here.  One day I will open the pages and here I will be.  I  went home last year and took what I felt was an image to submit.  It had the look and feel of what the editors would choose and I submitted one image.  The rest well you can see.
Look familiar?  It should I first blogged about this image back in May of 2010.  I was pleased with this image.  I had used an old vintage image that was offered on the Graphic Fairy and combined it with an image that I had from my photography. You can view this and more of my photography collection at Jeweledfrogs Flicker.  The process as I described in the short blurb, was a simple one and took me all of about 5 minutes.  Just positioning the image and creating the correct color and layering technique.  I wanted it to look like a memory or a clip of film caught in between frames.  The finial touch was the poem (one I composed myself)  showing up behind the two images.  This image of the woman meant  a lot to me due to the little dog.  It reminded me so much of my little terrier.
I want to convey to you readers the importance of standing in your own truth.  Believing in your selves as creators and artist.  This image never did receive much interest when I posted it on my blog  but I knew that it had the quality that the editors at Somerset Digital Studio where looking for.  I watched the magazine and looked at the talent and made notes and then came home and applied what I had seen.  I want to encourage you all to submit your work to your favorite publication. Be vigilant and observe the trends, improve you skills and push yourselves.  You never know.  Thank you Digital Studio for all you have done for one artist.
To get your copy of my design you can head over to the Frogs Attic on Etsy

Cooking with Zombies

I have been working again on my images and this is my latest. I am not really a zombie fan (however I did see and LOVE Zombieland) but when I saw this Susie Homemaker on the Graphic Fairy and the idea hit my brain like a train. Quick to the bat cave I went to put this undead idea into reality and this is what I came up with. I believe that I am going to do a series of these little homemakers. After all all Zombies are people too and I think that they need a Martha Stewart to help them along with creative crafting or homemaking tips .

Creativity Key to the Soul

I have used my created ground over spiral notebook and placed this vintage image of a women over it. Then placed a skeleton and selected the darken option on the layering pallet. The next step was to use a new layer and paint a solid skeleton to create a more visual skeletal frame under the image of the woman. I placed roses with in the frame of the chest to express creativity with in. Over all of this I used my scanned in lace and then distressed it.

The Marriage Gamble

I have been working on grounds and this is an example of my efforts. The best image starts with the ground that you lay it on. It can even inspire you to create something. This image or images that you see here, the photo and the cards and even the paper , have been gleamed from the Graphic Fairy. I have then used layering techniques and applied them to a scanned in image of a spiral note book that I had laying around. I used layering techniques such as darkening and overlaying and drop shadow to create a 3D look. The darkening choice in the layering pallet is a must. It will let you lay images over images such as over the spiral that you see here and gives the impression that it had always been there. A quick change in the the base color (the color behind the darkened vintage paper) will also change the appearance so play around with it to achieve the look that you are striving for.

Grunge ground work

I enjoy a good ground to springboard my creations on. I get inspired by color and textures. I look for anything that I see laying around to create that texture and color that will make my art unique. So here I have designed some ground work that you too can use in your digital or printing needs. Please be kind and give credit where credit is due it will inspire me to create more! Here is the first ground done in purple. It is free to you to use so just click on the image and travel by computer to my flicker and there you can down load just about any size you need. Hey don't forget I would love to see your creations so send a pic. I'll work on a place here on my blog to display your art in a gallery. Got request feel free to leave a comment and tell me what you would like to see. It helps me out as well as you. I get great ideas from creative people and you will get some great grounds. So until next post take care and have a great day.

kelsey the mermaid

Created from incorporating a photograph that I took years ago and combining it with some vintage images, I used layering techniques to create an aged look. I added a tail to the little dear and a few glints of sun light. The aged look came from my own ground collection that I created this past weekend.
