Behind the Art!
Just a little bit about how I started doing this collection.  I have loved Halloween for years, but then I love holidays it seems.  Just the opportunity to celebrate but add the extra element of dressing up?  Well....... that just says it all.  I am eccentric anyway.  I have kimonos and parasols that I USE  and USE  them often.  I love the Victorian age and love adding elements to my life and wardrobe.  I love creating a feeling but keeping it undated. These little images are a creation of that element of extravagance that runs deep in my bones.  Now how did I become inspired to do these bones that you see well my muse this month has been LuLu Kellog, Seems its Halloween in her studio 365. The Skull was gleamed from Graphic Fairy another constant muse in my studio
Thanks LuLu

Skeletal Remains

Wednesday is here and with it the rain has rolled in.   But you know it is still beautiful.  With the colors of the leaves against the gray skies.  Do I feel another infusion of creativity?? Yes I do, but first let me announce the winner  of last weeks giveaway.   I want to thank LuLu Kelloge of "Coastal Sisters News" here on blogger (to see her gallery of wonderful creations you can check her out here at Costal Sisters.com) Her talent is just wonderful and her personality is funtastic.  So check her out and follow her blog for some entertaining blogging as well as unique jewelery,  painting and photography.

There you have it.. the winner!!!!

Will I have some more treats before Halloween YES I WILL.  I have already been busy creating some more things.  Some busy little skeletons having a tea party and then there are some pumpkins that defiantly have a some enchanted looks.  By the way if you don't already you should watch Halloween Wars On the Food Network.  I love the creativity of the Bling Bats (one of the creative teams competing)  Their attention to details and ideas are really great.  I find that watching things that have nothing to do with digital manipulation such as what I do every day,  constantly pushes me to think outside of my normal box. What are some of your inspirations?

Speaking of inspiration (and yes I am still on Halloween)
More skeletons and yes they are having tea.  They are sitting on little green pumpkin chairs with lace overlay.  I love it.  I just can't move on from this holiday.  I could do this all year long. Who know perhaps I will just dwell here after all who says Santa can't have a little skeleton in Christmas?

I am still working on more additions like a page of elements to be offered with this.

I love the zebra that I created.  Think that I will do some more images in the BW look  It looks great and highlight the color used and also makes for interest.  The Luna moth is another favorite element.  I digitally  manipulated one of them to give them a wings up appearance.  The flourishes have been taken from vintage paper. I then created brushes in photoshop and applied them to the back of the image to give a lacy effect.
Well TTFN

Haunted Haunts copy

Today is typical day here in the mountains.  The sun is taking it sweet time in showing her glowing face.
Here is the sunshine!
I decided that since it is Halloween time and my favorite time of the year I would do a little give away of some of my newest creations and my newest line of digital imagery.  So with out further ado here is the deal.  You will receive the above images (4 in total) in png format.  That is to say you will get colored images with a clear background that you can click and drag onto your digital projects. No watermarks on your images.   Png works with most digital programs and you should be able to have some fun with these little haunting scrap themes.  Use them to decorate your photos or for your website etc they can be printed.  These are for PERSONAL USE and may not be sold.

For entries;
Just leave a comment telling me what you like about them or what you would like in the next giveaway.  If you want a second shot of entry just tweet or like my face book page leave a second comment telling me you did so.  That is it.  So have fun.  If this give away is a success you will see another give away like this very soon.  Have fun and have a creative weekend. Winner will be chosen randomly next Wednesday 19th.
Good luck.

Tusday Tusday

Just a wanted to make a quick post and say that I hoped your weekend was great and that this fall time has truly inspired you to create some fantastic things.  As I have looked around at some of your blogs I see all sorts of fun projects.
I have taken the little ghost pumpkins that became so popular a few years back and let it inspire me.  Here is a lovely bit of wrapping paper that I designed.

All of these little items are original elements.  The basis of the witches hat (the inspiration) was taken from a witches hat created by the Graphic Fairy.

But the perspective was wrong for this project.  So I worked with it using the liquefy tool (how apropos for a witches hat "oh you liquidated her hey?" Wizard of Oz)  and created a more slender point and changed the brim of the little hat.  It work great.
As you can see this little pumpkin has inspired me to create some elements that can be used in digital or printable work.  Here you see my sweet model who gladly lent me the rights to publish his image on my blog (but then my son always wants his face on something of mine)  I thought perhaps that I may do a give away with these fall elements.  So readers do let me know if you would be interested in this little notion and I will put together a package for some lucky reader. Let me know by just leaving a comment here on my blog and then let the creativity begin.

Happy Weekend

I know I know I should be working on Christmas or Thanksgiving but I am still tightening up some examples of the designs that I am creating.

I love Halloween papers.   This image was so sweet once I got the elements of a little package together.  The card that I designed also worked well with the repeat.
I am going to work on the same repeat but put a more American twist and put the word Halloween.  All Hallows Eve works great for Europe but may limit its usefulness here State side.
The "To Do" list grows.
Well this was a quick entry as we are off to Sam's Club today to gather our food stash.
For the elements used in this post you can visit the Graphic Fairy

The Hallows Banner is original.

Have a fun and enchanting weekend with your creations.

Taking the time

I was wondering what I would write about today.  With the day so beautiful outside it seemed such a shame to sit in here in front of my computer.  But the desire to create and get some of my art a much needed dust off and more compliant to more products won out.  So I shall include all of you in what I have been working on.  I am currently closing out my working on Halloween.  I hate that idea.  To leave the bright colors and the witches just breaks my hart.  So as I am taking one last look around I noticed that some of the images that I have created are for one thing and one thing only and that is submission size to magazines.  Well that only works for, guess what, submission sizes to magazines.  So I have had to alter them to fit products.

The original
happyhauntspracticalmagic090611
Here is what I was working with.  Now I always save  a layered copy to work with.  It doesn't do you a bit of good to have a great work of art if you have not saved a layered version.  tiff files are extremely heavy but have fantastic color and you can save in layers.  PSD files are equally as heavy and also can be saved in layered files.  Layering is how you build your image.  Each element is on a layer and then placed around the image as you wish.  Textures and gradients are also on layers that way you can created different effects at will.

happyhauntspracticalpumpkincard

I have removed some of the layers as you can see here, and then increased the size of the elements that I wanted to work with.  By grouping the fairy, wings, and window, and pumpkin, I was able to increase their size and then place them in the center creating a whole new image.  This image has been used on cards and other products.

happyhauntspracticalmagiccard

In this version I have removed the words "Magic"  they just did not do well in the smaller card size. The image look pinched and cluttered.  With the lightening of some of the elements the image now  looks great as a card.

Here are the finial versions in their product forms :

This way of creating does require a certain bit of preperation and thinking ahead.  Thinking of what type of products you want to be able to design for.  In my case as many as I can design for is the ultimate goal.

Inspiring Colors and Thoughts

Bits of Inspiration

Sometime just going to my followers blogs I get great inspiration.  I am careful not to terry to long on their site (don't want to subconsciously copy) I look at shapes and techniques and COLOR.  Yes color combination.  Even if I look in magazines I just flip through and look at shapes and color combos.  Placement of items in collage and techniques.   Here are a few areas that I get my inspirations.  I found a lovely book on one of my blog friends sites Victoria of Brush Stokes.  Not only did she have some lovely eye candy with this recent post from her Practical Magic blog party
So in it went in my cauldron of inspiration.

Another Fantastic blog is "Frosted Petunias" by Blog author and artiest Anna.  The golds and greens she uses are fantastic.  It looks as if it is written in candle light and sparkles.  Even the music that she has playing creates an enchantment encouraging you to stay.
Stampington Digital Studio is another one of my sources.  Of coarse.  I just flip through the pages.  I mean that.  There is so much to be inspired by but again I am careful not to look too closely.  It is amazing what your subconscious can come up with with just a little exposure to art and color.
Nothing will squish your creative ability then to try and copy another style.  It just doesn't work and will end up waisting your creative time and ability.

The Victorians
I can't tell you how much this era in our world history has influenced me.  By the looks of today's clip art, collage creations both paper and digital  this aspect of the Victorian times have influenced a wealth of crafting.
Quoth the Raven....
All Hallows Eve

I used a fantastic grunge textureI think by adding this is created a bit more depth to it. I also used another texture of marble under the skull to give it some texture.
